A one of a kind special treat for Valentine's Day: Raku pots.
Raku fired bowl in clear crackle glaze with black flowers. The flowers are hand painted and carbon is trapped around their shadows during the raku firing process. Look at this piece from every angle, the details in the effects of the glaze are really special to behold.
One of a kind, I can try to replicate, but there will never be another piece quite like this one.
Dimensions: 7.25 x 7.25, 2.75" h
A little note: all pieces are hand made and one of a kind. Slight imperfections occur during the creative and firing processes and add to the beauty and individuality of each piece.
A note about raku pieces:
These pieces are extraordinarily special low fired pieces made with a cohort of fellow potters at a raku firing retreat in the Catskills. The raku firing process creates glaze effects that you can't get from an electric kiln firing alone. Pieces are pulled red hot from the kiln and placed into containers with combustibles (in this case trash cans full of newspaper). The effects of this process create unique colors and glaze effects and results that are truly special and full of surprises at every angle of every piece. Raku pieces are not food safe and are not intended to hold water. They make great decorative pieces or vessels for dried flower arrangements.
